The Important Words of Life

Why are the most important words also the smallest?
They carry so much weight,
so much meaning.
And yet we throw them around like they're nothing,
like they have no significance.
But they do.

Saying "I love you" is no small thing.
Your heart is now only half yours.
Your love hold the other half in their palm,
with the power to caress or break it.
Love means you are willing to take this risk.

To trust, to truly trust, is rare.
You always wonder who it'll be, the one that betrays you.
Will it be her?  Him?
The possibilities are endless.
So we hold things in.
We keep secrets.
And we know we can't get hurt.

Lies.
Evil, devilish, little buggers.
They betray everything.
Love, trust, friendship, they're all out the window.
Just for
one
stupid
little
lie.
Was it worth it?

We all love.
We all trust.
We all lie.
But how real are they?
They're pieces of reality hastily pushed together.
The real versions are hidden.
No one wants to be hurt.
So we box ourselves up.
And we aren't.
